Much Less Stress

The new job that I started this week. Much less stress, less pressure, and so much less company bullshit. I’m liking the atmosphere so far! 10 hour days seem like a breeze compared to those horrible 12 hour shifts, so much better getting off at 4:00 PM instead of 6:30 PM, I actually have time to get stuff done! It was the right choice for me. One of the best parts is knowing my work week is Monday thru Thursday and never any last minute mandatory overtime! There’s so much more to life than being a slave to the company. I’ll never put up with that crap ever again. And with the company I’m at now, I’ll never have to!

It happened quickly. My first day of vacation I knew the 12 hour Monday thru Friday gig was going to be extended and we’d never see the end of it, so I made a couple of calls and set up two interviews for my second day of vacation. That night (my first day of vacation) a guy I work with sent me a photo of the white board. On it, they had just added mandatory 5 days 12 hours all through the rest of September and all of October in to November. At that point I knew I was never going back and that I would find something else while on vacation. On day two of vacation during the first interview I accepted their offer. But I still had another interview to go to. The pay was a little better, plus it was very close to home. That interview really never got off the ground, that was my choice, and I’ll tell you what happened.

I walked in and the first thing said to me was, “Have you been vaccinated?” Turned me off right there. “I decline to answer that question,” I replied. She said, “Well I need to see proof of vaccination.” Whenever someone says the words in that somewhat condescending tone of “I need you to” or “You need to…” let me tell you something. You are dangerously close to getting punched square in the face. Don’t ever say that to me, ever.

So, my blood was really boiling at that point. She then said, “Well, I’m going to need you to wear a mask on our property, including outside.” If she would have been a guy, it would have been, BAM!, lights out, down you go. I looked at her and said, “This shit right here is why you can’t get anyone to work here, and you just don’t get it. We’re done, have a nice day.” I turned my back and left.

That’s pretty much how I wound up where I am. I do not regret the choice I made. It was the right one.

Now, let’s not talk about that anymore. At 2:20 this afternoon, autumn officially arrived here in the Central Time Zone. It’s not summer any more. But we’re going to have summer-like weather next week!

There were quite a few boats going by tonight, kinda different for the middle of a work week, this late in the evening, this late in the year. It was a fine sight!

Well, that’s all I’ve got for tonight. Let’s do this again tomorrow, shall we?

Goodnight.
